4.0 sohc head gaskets
4.0 sohc head gaskets
I am almost positive that I blew a head gasket on my ranger, I still have a few test to run before I condem it. But if I do have to install new head gaskets would anybody be intrested in a write up on how to do it?
i'd be interested to see how much of a crap job it would be!
you should consider camming the engine while you have it apart, i think that super six sells 4.0SOHC cam shafts. i'd be more interested to see what sort of gains could be made with some real parts!
uh, scratch that, i just looked at their site, and to use their cams, you have to use their stage 3 heads, so you're looking at $2400 right there!
still it would be neat to see what kind of power could be made with real parts, not pulleys and air filters.

If it's the passenger side that blew the gasket then the motor will have to come out. That cam is driven of off the back of the block. I honestly would not even bother with the gasket and just swap in a reman engine.

Hey guy, I'm brand new here; was wondering what makes you think you blew a head gasket? Oil, lotsa oil in the coolant, overheating, plenty o steam comin out the exhaust? Check this out man, if you have access to pressure testing equipment, do a pressure test and find out where your leak(s) are. About two weeks ago I thought I had a blown head gasket. After talking extensively with a ford master tech about how many head gasket jobs he's done for SOHC in the past three years, a grand total of....0..., he said that it was most likely the dumbass thermostat housing. Pulled my intake and found out my thermostat housing had failed due to a stuck thermostat. Coolant and crap all over the engine block valley. Hey man give it a shot. See if you can find the leak. BTW, you don't have to pull the motor if you to do both head gaskets, but you will have to invest in a Cam Alignment Tool set that will run you about 3 bills. If you need the instructions to pull the heads, I have em and can send em to ya (they come straight from the Ford Factory Manual). Hey man hope this helps. Don't give up hope or the ship!
Hey I just replaced my thermostat and thermostat housing could a stuck thermostat cause coolant to shoot from the radiator cap when running? I had the cap off because I was trying to bleed out all the air from the system and it started shooting coolant out.
