4.0ohv lope/misfire at idle.. CEL

Hey guys, I have a 92 with a 4.0..5 speed. 245km on it. Everything seems to be pretty good with it in general, and I have just replaced the flywheel, top end gaskets, plugs and wires. I have also cleaned the MAF and IACV (I believe it is..on the drivers side of the IM)

There seems to be a misfire coming from 5-6 or something but it's only on idle. The truck still has lots of power and fuel economy doesn't really to be affected which is kind of a relative statement for a 4.0, and the only real time the CEL will show up is when I hammer on it getting onto a highway (then when i come to a stop the misfire will be terrible), if i keep the revs below 3000 or so rpm I never get a CEL.

Any ideas?

Also, the tach doesn't work below 3000rpm. Once i start getting past 3000rpm, the tach will slowly climb and begin working again. Seems like it would be a ground issue?

Could it maybe be something jiggered up with my coil pack?
Thanks for any ideas guys

94 and earlier Rangers with OBD can be read with an analog voltmeter or test light. Or you can use a code reader labled for OBD or OBDI (not OBDII only).

OBD trouble codes and code reading info

Ahh..forgot to mention. I guess its whats called a "soft code" it goes away once you turn the truck off and turn it back on. Will I still be able to get the code if the truck is running?
