Will a '99 4.0OHV connect to '07 M50D-R1
Will a '99 4.0OHV connect to '07 M50D-R1
So... the 3.0 in my 2007 is developing a pretty good knock. I'm going to try a couple of quick fixes (like thicker oil, etc) and see if it helps, but I've at least been tossing around the idea of swapping in the 4.0 OHV from my '99 into this truck as the 4.0 OHV still runs like a fricking champ.
Looking it over, it appears that the 4.0 OHV bolted up to the same M50D-R1 Manual transmission (even though my current one is bolted to the 4R55E Auto).
Will these just bolt up? Do I need any sort of adaptor or anything? Hopefully the answer is not and I can just pull the engine. Would make things a lot simpler (and a better possibility).
Information I pulled was from here:

http://therangerstation.com/tech_library/AutoTrans.html
Also, I should note that Minnesota doesn't do any sort of vehicle check where the engine has to be newer then the car so that's not a problem here.

Im confused.
The SOHC and OHV have different bolt patterns so you will have one bolt missing. And the dowel pins may need to go. 3.0 is completely unique and has its own bell-housing.
Adapters do not exist as far as I know.

Basically, the question was can I take the '99 4.0 OHV out of my 99 and just bolt it to the M50D-R1 in my 2007.
It appears that is not the case. I originally saw that they used the same transmission in their Manual versions (the M50D-R1), so I was hopeful. Thanks for the help.

As long as you get a trans that came behind an OHV you will have no issues there. However, the computer and wiring will be a different story.
This is not a typical swap for sure, if you were to do a newer SOHC it would be much easier. Unfortunately it sounds like you have some of the parts already.
