94 4.0 OHV A/C
94 4.0 OHV A/C
Truck has been in the family since 1997, A/C hasn't worked since 2008. Shop told us it was the compressor, but back then it wasn't mine so not my decision, anyway looking to get it going now since it has become my daily driver. Would it be a good idea to just replace the compressor and hope for the best or should I replace anything else? Looking to only have to do the charge once since it's going to cost me as much as the compressor.
If it was the compressor then you will need to replace condenser as well, flushing probably won't work
Google: car AC system flush
And watch Scotty's "Don't Flush" video
When a compressor goes bad it usually releases metal debris which goes directly to the condenser, and it will stay there for awhile since when compressor goes out AC flow stops
If you try to flush it you won't get it all out of the condenser
Then after new compressor is in and flow starts again some of these pieces will work there way around and get into the compressor and over time cause another failed compressor, might be a year or two even 3 years, so AC shops LOVE to charge for flushing with that 1 year warranty, lol
Just better to spend the $50-$80 now on the condenser, and get something that will last for 10+ years, but up to you
And also blow out/clean the AC lines, they will all be open with compressor out and condenser out(and receiver/drier, read on)
1994 should use R134a so no issues there
You need a new accumulator/receiver/drier and orifice tube, any time you open an AC system up and expose it to air, not expensive parts
Remember to add oil to new compressor
