'98 4.0 4x4 starter removal- jack engine?
Hello all,
I need to drop the starter on my 4.0 and it looks like I need just another 1/2" of clearance to get it out between block and front diff...do I need to unfasten motor mount on driver's side so I can jack the engine a bit?
Thanks,
DB

Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna tackle it again today.
I'm able to get the starter motor and solenoid to drop down between the engine and front diff however, the face of the starter (that mates with the bell housing) is a smidge wider and that's where it gets hung up-I've tried changing the "angle of attack" without success...
Will see if a new day brings a new perspective!
Will advise...

Well, a new day and a little better frame of mind, I got the starter swapped out. Kinda like folding a roadmap back up, it took just the right position to get the starter to wiggle out.
We're back up and running!
Thanks,
