99 4.0 OHV head

I went to put my new Pro Max Performance head on yesterday and could not seem to get it to fit down over the pilot pipes which are on each end of the engine block and that the OD of the pipes were 15.33 and the holes on the head were 15.25 which will not allow the head to fit flush with the block. Is it possible to say take it to a machine shop and have them enlarge the holes so it will fit. Has anyone else had this problem lately with Pro Max?

Could be the wrong heads.

The alignment pins are called Cylinder Head to Block Dowels, Ford use 6A008 as generic part number for these dowels on ANY engine size

The 1998 to 2000 Ranger 4.0l OHV engines had smaller exhaust ports to increase velocity of exhaust in manifold and pipes to warm up O2s and Cat converters faster, which lowered cold start emissions.
So the 1998-2000 heads are different.

But yes, you could machine the head holes to fit the dowel size

Thanks for reply and information. I went back out this morning and messed around and found out that the block dowels were pretty cruddy so I cleaned them up and tryed the head again. The dowels went into the head about 3/16 - 1/4 of a inch and after I took it back off I could see a line of crud that the dowels had pushed ahead of it so I took my dremel tool with a wire brush and cleaned it out. I will try again when I go back out after dinner and see if that helps. I imagine it got that way when it was going through the machining process. If it helps I will let you know.

Good

Never heard of different size dowels on the 4.0l ohv 1990-2000, so it would be a new one for me if they were different size

Well good news, I finally got the head to fit down on the block. I took a 3/8" wooden dowel, cut a slot in it and wrapped a length of 80 grit emery cloth around it, placed it in my drill and polished the inside of the cylinder head where the block dowel fits and it finally fits down on the block like it is supposed to. Sometimes a little glitch can turn into a big headache. Thanks again RonD for the information it just goes to show "old dogs can learn new parts phrases".

Only part number I could find is E6DZ-6A008-A

And that's a 1986(E6) part number and was used up until the 2011 Ranger on all the Cologne engines, 1986 and up, 2.9l and both 4.0l OHV and SOHC

8 pack here but I think you only need 4, 2 for each head: https://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Ford-E6...-/373402225937
