air box mod... problems

i have an 07 4.0.... i was going to do the mod earlier, but i cannot get that dang air box out! i sprayed some lube on the rubber grommets and tried to pull it out of the side first and then pull it up... i even stuck a pry bar on the damn side grommet and would not budge... and i was using a 15" pry bar... any tricks? even if i were to put an aftermarket intake on, id still have to get that box out but WTF this thing is TIGHT in there

That's what I was going to recommend.

I had a hell of a time getting my air box out this weekend - I put a long flat head screwdriver in the space between the grommets. That braced it against the panel underneath the box, then it came out sweet as sugar. Mine was dirty as hell though. Took about 30 minutes total to get the box out, it was not a happy camper.

I used also slid a screwdriver under the box near the grommets, and pulled upward. It took a little force, but it came out. :)

I gave up trying to get it out. I was able to just remove the rubber piece and the silencer.

After I pulled off the intake ducting to the throttlebody and after seeing how small it was I didn't feel it was necessary to cut up the box. The blade is more of a restriction.

I did notice a little bit more power on tap.

I feel your pain about that stupid airbox. I actually broke one of my gromit plug thingys a long *** time ago when i did my airbox mod... tho that was before i was smart enough to use the wd-40 and such.

As for the moddding itself: I dont much see the point to hacking the hell out of your airbox vs just removing the silencer.... All its going to do is allow more crap to get up and in there (especially when ur in the dirt, water, etc) and with the size of the intake tube your not going to get any better airflow =/
