cam syncro won't seat

having a frustrating issue trying to get my new cam synchronizer to seat all way into it's pocket and into the oil pump.4.0 2000 ranger. old one seats ok. also, when I took the old one out, there was not a hold down sleeve, only the bolt
sure could use some help, wanting to install this weekend of June the 11th. this is the second cam synchro that won't seat all way down

Is this an aftermarket replacement from the auto parts store? I've had issues with cheaper distributors not fitting in the bore, and the same could easily happen with a cam synchronizer.

cam synchro won't seat

got this one from napa, last one was new and not oem
the old (bad) synchro was loose in it's shaft. maybe that helps it line up to oil pump.
don't know. been hassling with this for two weeks

Hmm, I'm not sure. I've had them be a little difficult to install before, but I was always able to wiggle them the right way to get them to seat.

cam syncro to oil pump

went thru 3 cam synchronizers trying to get one to seat into the oil pump. still no success. ordered one from amazon to see if a cheaper one will. won't be out much if it don't.
can't figure what the issue is. the old one seats right in. they all look the same with detailed examination.
any suggestions?
