Compatible 4 Lit. Replacement

I just blew a piston in my 94 ranger and I would like to know what years and other Fords would be a compatible swap for another 4.0? Any info would be greatly appreciated

anything with a OHV 4.0L. i am pretty sure you can find them in early to late 90's rangers, exploders and maybe even some areostars. im not sure if they had a 3.0L or the 4.0L in them. ive heard both.

Yeah, like Morris said, 4.0's are pretty popular, I have one in my '02 and they were put in alot of Rangers to at least the '10 model, not sure of the '11's though. Good luck on your search and if you end up with alot of extra parts, sell them here or on ebay plus if you want to do some mods on stuff like your airbox or whatever, you may have extra parts to do it with! Let us know how everything turns out.

they switched from OHV to SOHC in early 2000's. it is a different motor and i am pretty sure things are limited for swapping over from one to another.

Thanks for the info. Another question I have come up with is, when pulling the motor can the transmission and transfer case be removed attached to the motor?

It would be quite cumbersome to pull the whole combination together. Your tranny and transfer case are OK are they not, leave those in place, just pull the bad 4.0 and drop the good one in.

The block isnt diffrent. The block is the same the heads are diffrent. You can swap from a OHV to SOHC just need to know what you are doing with the wireing for the maf and fuel lines. Pulling a motor isnt hard just make sure with an auto to unlock the converter. I just did a motor swap for a 05 I bought

The block is but the heads are diffrent cause of the cam (SOHC). The manual trans for a OHV and the SOHC trans are the same but one bolt on the top where the chain tensionier is.
