Crank Sensor: where's it at in a OHV???
I made this thread the other day https://www.ranger-forums.com/f15/tr...d-help-106662/
And now I know its got to be the crank sensor. I've searched everywhere for pics of where its located but all I keep getting is small blocky images in black in white drawing of it and that its in close proximity of the crankshaft damper. Can anybody snap a pic of where its at for me on a OHV? That would be awesome!
I got priced $45 by my mechanic for labor to install it and I've heard it isn't to hard to replace so I thought I'd try and do it if I knew where it was at lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's off the passanger side of the crank pulley easiest to get to it from under the truck it almost touches the pulley and is held on by 2 I think it's 8mm bolts. I paid like $15 for one from the parts store and took longer to pull off my skid plate then it did to change it

see the round metal ring down below that's part of the sensor give you a general area of it. Also the only tricky part is the plug has a metal snap ring like retaining ring on it don't loose it or damage it when taking it off before you can unplug it or you are gonna be in trouble

Thanks a ton Stone! The last part about the metal snap ring is making me think twice about doing it lol. Knowing me there's a good chance I would break it or loose it. You can't buy another one from Ford? Is it easily breakable?
So you unscrew it and take it out before you unplug it? or the other way around. I figure if I could replace the mulifunction switch myself this shouldn't be to much harder. Or I could be wrong.

yes its easier to unbolt it first. its just one of those C-metal style clips thats how its held on the plug its not hard. hell i bent mine some and rebent it. just letting you know to take your time dont go all crazy pulling to get it apart

How did you get a socket in there? The plug is right in front of one of the bolts the only way to get the bolt out without unplugging the plug first is by using pliers to try and loosen it. which is starting to strip the bolt. Would it hurt anything if I took the plug out first?

Its been starting on and off lately so I don't think I'm going to really find out til tom. morning or later. And I got it to start before I installed the new crank sensor. But it did start after I put the new one in so thats always a good thing lol

No not at all. On a scale of 1-10 1 being easy, I'd put it at a 3. Took me about a half hour. Not bad at all I'd say. Hardest part was getting your hand in their and getting that back bolt out, but I got it.
