Recently the timing cover on my 4.0 OHV has corroded away and needs to be replaced, but no one on earth seems to sell a new timing cover for my engine. I was going to look at used ones but doing some looking around noticed the 4.0 SOHC timing cover looks exactly the same, even though every website says it wont fit. Will it fit the OHV? I'd much rather buy a new one than used.

Dorman 635-119 vs 635-117 = a NOGO.

 

635-117 is for the 3.0 V6 not the 4.0, I was wondering about the differences between the 4.0 SOHC and OHV

 

Sorry Dude, I was sloppy. It does say 3.0 in the details. I tried 1997 / 4.0 again and Dorman doesn't have a listing.

 

Right thats what Im saying, if you look at the two links I posted a used one from a 99 ranger and a new one for a 2003 ranger look exactly the same, I just wanted to know if anyone knew if I could use the newer one even though it says it wont fit.

 

Time to visit your local Ford Store and ask?

Did the '99 ever have an engine swap?

 

No its the stock 4.0. OHV. I'll see if ford has any answers, just thought someone on here might be able to help aswell.
