most of you dont know but i work for a speed shop here in detroit and i am talking to the guys from comp cams about making an upgraded cam for my truck. nothing radical , will be able to use stock engine with stock internals but a bigger lope on the cam and basically more torque and low end power.

i am checking to see if anyone else is interested in buying one if i had them make several extra....

let me know i dont really have a clue on price but somewhere probably under $200....

2 cams for $200 would be a steal. I would think they are already developing one since we share the same engine as the new v6 mustangs. Have you checked from that angle?

With my tranny broke, now would be the time to do something like this. With the dollars for the tranny, it doesn't leave dollars for cams. Kind of a catch 22.

 

Is this for a 4.0 or 3.0? I'm going to take a guess and say 4.0 just cause everyone in the world refuses to make aftermarket parts for the 3.0. But if it'd work out for the 3.0 I'd definitely be up for one. Just for ya'lls reference, I don't know squat about these motors, never had one pulled apart. Only some SB Chevy's.

 

I'd be definately interested. 2 cams for $200.....Hell yea I'd do it for my SOHC. That means I'll probably have to get a tuner from doug to the new timing wouldn't screw with anything.

 

sorry let me rephrase that, probably like 150.00 a cam so like 300 total... but we will see what i can get them to do.. and yes we are talking about the mustang v6 also, thats helping the gears move...

 

I dunno how hard is it to install the cams on a 4.0? Ive never been into my motor yet, also if the gains are there I'm all for it I think! I need some numbers though.

 

Shoot....comp cams should just start making a cam for the mustang 4.0....there's guys out there building them things up.

Thomas....you gotta take all the crap out of the way of the valve covers....and they are right under the each valve cover.

They're under the valve covers, but it's probably a detailed job thanks to our timing chains in the front and back of the engine. I'm pretty sure the engine is gonna come out to do it.

 

Ah, I see know. I found a cam for my little 3.0 anyways whilst I was being dumb.

Grant, since you work at a speed shop, what #'s are we looking at to install these? I would be interested because 300 bucks for cams is a decent deal, but if its going to cost a fortune for install then i don't know...

 

the only thing that will stop me from buying is a weak profile.

so, as soon as you get some numbers on the intake/exhaust and duration please post them up...

along with the install prices to go with that... even though livernois does installs, they wont be doing installs on my truck or anything, but i have another place that i trust and does extremely good work, so i will get with them and we will figure out prices...

Just wondering would that only work for the 4.0 SOHC? Or would they work in the OHV as well? I might be interested, but want to know if they will work first.

IIRC I think the front end(grill lights ect) need to come off then you remove the radiator to replace cams.

 

Meaning so the whole motor dosent have to come out?

shouldn't have to remove the headlights......maybe the grill, but not the headlights......definately have to remove the radiator so you can have room to work on getting the timing chain and stuff off.........the cams might have to have the heads off to be replaced since the cam itself is in the head not the block....

 

You are thinking of a push rod motor. The cams are under the valve cover on a sohc.

 

even the pushrod 4.0's the headlights don't have to come out......take the radiator and grill out and it will slide out......
