After reading on here about tunes and such I wondered if there were any ill effects to doing mods like this? Does it decrease engine life? I know it adds power and gets better mileage but id rather not pay to destroy my truck. Hoping you all will have positives to say is this 4.0 doesnt have the get up and go like my full sized truck. Thank you

 

I never had a problem with mine... I only had it a few years but no issues in that time. As long as it's done properly there should be no issues.

 

I have 154K miles on my Ranger and most of that has been with a performance tune. I have experienced nothing that indicates a decrease in engine life. The only ill effects is when I switch back to the stock tune for smog testing. I can't wait until I get back on the performance tune to get the performance and drivability back. I was told it should pass with the performance tune but I don't want to take any chances.

 

I threw a complex computer based tuner on my truck to alter the ignition and fuel control, and I gained about 20-30 horsepower, but am down to about 11 miles per gallon
