open circuit to fuel pump won't run
I have an 01 ranger with 4.0 engine truck won't start when it is warm. I can run errands for a while and sometimes when I go to start it again it won't start. After a while it will start and run fine. It will crank but won't start/ I put a scanner on it when it would not start and it said I have an open circuit to the fuel pump. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone know how to fix it?

when I got open circuit their was no fuel pump noise other times their is when it starts if fuel pump was going how long would it take This first started one time about 8 months ago and then it did not happen again for a few months.Lately it is getting more frequent. If I can get it to not start at home then I will check for power at the inertia switch and try jumping the switch and try to trace it back. But it only does a no start when it wants to. I couldn't get it to do it today and I drove it for a while and tried starting it at least 10 times and it started every time. You just never know when it will happen again

There is an Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch that is supposed to turn off the fuel pump after a major impact like a collision. This switch may go bad and either trip completely off at random or cause the fuel pump to be intermittent even if it hasn't tripped. The next time it won't start, try resetting the IFS to see if it responds. It is located under the dash above the passenger footwell. If you need a picture, check the "Roadside Emergencies" section of your owners manual.
