Hi, I'm thinking aboutordering a set of ford racing injectors, I think, not sure, the stock ones are 24#, can anyone verify this?
Also, has anyone else swapped stock injectors for the ford racing (or equivalent) injectors (same size)? If so, what differences did you find?

I'm mainly after better mpg hence not looking at larger ones. After the Air box mod, and custom catback, and finally getting the dealer to flash my pcm (to get rid of spark knock) I'm getting around 24.5-25.5 mpg on my:

2004 Ranger 4.0 4x2

Also, any other suggestions would be appreciated

well it's not as cheap as new injectors, but if you want better MPG there are 2 mods that are a must.

E-Fan which will run you about 150 on average, will add 2-3mpg I believe

and then a Bama Tuner which runs about 400, will make your engine just run tons better giving you alot of control, added hp and tq, better mpg, ability to read and CEL's and much more.

andn then thre are always the basics like tire air pressure and proper oil changes and cleanin gout your airfilter regularly.

 

Thanks for your quick reply, I've already been keeping up tire press. and changed all my fluids to synthetics, drop in K&N air box mod and exhaust.
I'm a bit leary of the efan, I put one in my 98 Ranger 2.3 and in a traffic jam on the freeway (in winter around 30deg) it suddenly overheated and started a light knock afterwards, not sure if it was the efan or a prob with the thermostat, but thats how I ended up with my 04.

I have been shopping around for intakes and efans, I haven't really thought about a tuner, a friend of mine did on his Dakota RT but his is a blown v8 and neeed it, mopars are a lot trickier to mod I hear lol
I'll have to do some reading on the tuners and decide

24# injectors are stock in a 4.0l sohc. You will not gain any mileage by going with larger ones. The only reason you need to upgrade to a larger injector is to allow MORE fuel to flow into the engine to supply certain modifications(Nitrous, turbocharger, supercharger, for example). After the injectors have been replaced with larger, you HAVE to get a custom tune for the size injectors you installed(dyno tune is recommended).

 

ty nick, I'm not intending to go with larger injectors, just after the better atomization, in theory better atomization=better performance albeit not a whole lot.

The ford racing injectors have, I believe, 6 metering holes rather than the 2 in the stock injectors

 

Ah that's interesting about the Ford Racing injectors -- I didn't know that.

As far as the eFan, I think 2-3 mpg inprovement is way high. Expect 1 mpg maybe, and perhaps you won't measure it.

I've got an eFan now and considered losing it, but I've got my own design thermostatic controller in now, and I'm making a backup system that will kick it back on when very high temps occur and I've disabled the fan (like when I'm fording water) -- I forget to turn it back on sometimes, lol.

 

No one else has tried this? I was hoping to hear some input before commiting.

I don't know anything about the racing injectors but seriously consider a Bama programmer. It is the only thing I have done that increases gas mileage. You also get the benefit of having more power if you want but if you use the power you will sacrifice gas mileage. My city gas mileage jumped up about 1 mpg with the Bama programmer. Some people have claimed more.

 

Umm, I have 60# mototron injectors in my truck. I really dont get good mileage. Dont go on what I have, I also have soooo much crap bolted to my engine, I have to have the 60#ers.

What size injectors do the 4.0L OHVs come with? Are they 24lbs also? As far as the ford racing injectors, I am running the 30lb ones in my mustang and they work great.
