Icon5 Just Bought A 99 Ranger, Which Oil Should I Use?

I just bought a super clean and straight 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4X4 with 103,000 miles on it. I have completely drained and flushed every single fluid in the truck. I recently joined Ranger forums, to get some advice on Rangers. My mechanic says an older truck with those miles I should run "10W-30 and just conventional oil. Cheaper is better, they all meet the same specifications." I want to what is BEST not cheapest. I have read that Motorcraft is the best filter to use. But as for oil That is my question. Synthetic, Synthetic Blend, Hi Mileage conventional, or regular conventional oil. Also should I do 5W-30 like the manual says or go with a thicker oil, because of the higher mileage.

Thanks for any response and criticism.

Kevin

Motorcaft oil and filter (I use 5W-30 in my 06 4.0L because thats what manual states)

thats what the truck was built with, thats what stays in the truck. read your manual. the synthetic blend is fine, been using it since day one

I have read, on Ranger Forums, that switching to a synthetic or synthetic blend in later years is a bad thing. I didn't get my truck new, so I am curious in my position of a used truck what oil should I go with and I will stick to it until the truck is buried.

and p.s. I have the 4.0 V6

now you have a different 4.0 than I do. you have the 4.0 OHV, where as I have the 4.0 SOHC. regardless, read the owners manual and put what it says in there

Just get whatever weight your owners manual recommends.

OK, I will get 5W-30 and manual says every 5000 miles. Stick to the 5000 mile mark? And any thoughts on synthetic, I have read to NOT use it because of the age of my engine.
