I'm going to say those are freeze plugs and I'm not sure why those other plugs are screwed in differently.

I;m intrested to see the difference between these heads and the stock ones.. They are supposed to be"substantially thicker", but we shall see..

yeah, doubt i will do it, but i will be taking one of the heads along with the head gasket to my mechanic to see what he can do.. HE said it is usually around 4-5 hours per head, and he is around 60-70 euros/hour i do believe.. it would be around 500 bucks..

I wouldnt worry about the pipe plug sticking out. If it bothers you, try and cinch it down a little more and see if it tightens up any more.

So..... you made a thread to brag about getting mail order head?

so you guys i will be able to notice a difference? I know right now the power is LACKIng and the ehxuast sounds like ***.. Im really hoping this wakes up the 4.0 a bit.. Im not looking to gain power, just bring it back to where it should be, which will be like adding power to me since i have never felt it where it should be

4-5 per head for WHAT? 4-5 hours to replace just one head? Or all the work leading up to removing the head? I believe a head gasket job pays 18.0 hours last time I checked AllData.

It depends what's really wrong with your truck. New heads may make a difference, they may not. My heads were cracked and I didn't notice any difference when I did mine. I think your problem may be more along the lines of gearing if you're "lacking" power. Big meats take more to turn. Your tranny may be slipping aswell. You can do the Stall Speed Test ( I can get you that, too) to see if you're having issues with that.

have 4.56's, so gearing is not an issue... Know i have a cracked head with a leak(obvious lol).. Which is effecting compression.

Gotcha. I figured you still had 3.73's or 4.10's. Eh, you'll have to check the cracks when you get them off. When I pulled mine the cracks were hardly visible and I didn't notice ANY power differences when I put the new heads on I had.

Are you going to get that done? I honestly wouldn't worry about it. I'd rather have a stock engine in something i'm going to drive everyday. Personal opinion I guess though.

Make sure you take a straight edge across the top of the block and get it decked if it's necessary

that little button on the freeze plug is so they can tell if you overheated the motor. if i remember correctly the center is lead which will fall out if the motor overheats. Which would void any warranty in most cases.
