which is the better of the two for doing some off roading, the manual or the automatic transmission?

Any pros and cons wouild be apreciated.

I am about to purchase a a 2002 xlt with the 4.0L engine,4.10 gears, factory off road package,auto tranny, also has the towing pack oh and it is a 4x4 as well.

Is this a good vehicle to do some off roadign with?

That sounds like a great truck !!
I prefer the automatic for towing and off roading
At low speed and when starting off you do not loose energy to the clutch plate

 

i would probably get the auto. in my opinion, shifting gears is considered sporty and i can't imagine wanting to shift gears in a truck...that's why mine is an auto

 

id say auto, but i sure do miss my manual.

 

I have had both, and definately the automatic is the way to go.

 

Purely offroading automatics will peform better. They are also better for towing as well. What your buying there is basically what I have, thier nice trucks, get it!


Thats not to say that driving a manual cant be fun, I enjoy my 5 speed in my jeep.

Its great offroad...well, as good as it could be with stock tires
