Speed limiter? Good idea
[QUOTE=Georgeandkira;2158727]I'm very late to this party.
With my "Still New to Me" (today is Day #11) '05 FX4 I had to touch 80 mph whilst returning home from a 640 mile (round trip) refrigerator moving run.
I did this with NO FRIDGE in the trucklette.
As a superb contrast, the fellow I dropped the old fridges off to (appliance refurbishing / gas recycling etc.) lives in a "Going to Amish" community.
As the old population dies off it's nice to see the Amish (or anyone else) moving in and farming the small farms. Otherwise the old farms just go into disuse.
sorry I'm even later.
I have a 2008 FX4 Special Order, so I'm told. It has the V6 9.7:1 compression ratio, 5 speed trans and dual 4:10 positrac differentials. A mechanic I trust told me most FX4s are limited because of the skid pan at the front. Over 160 KPH, the front end will start to lift due to the skid pan. I've had mine up to 150 KPH and it feels pretty stable, but I'm sure all bets are off over that. Just did it to see what the top end is. This model hits max torque at 5250 RPM, so there's also that. But on ice and in snow, it's almost unstoppable. Takes off on ice great with winter tires and in 4X4. Just my 2 cents

Stop on ice at 150kph?
[QUOTE=Bubbabubba;2221675]
A little tinworm (about 5mcm x 5cm x 5cm) triangle at the bottom front of passenger door and some under the box across the front brace (?) underneath. I've owned it since 2010, it had 51k on it. Now has 304k. Never had it on ice at 150kph, sorry for the misunderstanding, but its kept me out of trouble a few times at city speeds with the Toyo directional winter tires. Far as I know, the SO was rubber matting, bucket seats (that 2 Ford dealerships claim were not stock or an option in 2008), 2"receiver hitch. I haven't checked to see if there were stock or an option in that year, I just believed what my mechanic told me. All told, the best little truck I've ever owned. I especially love the "shift on the fly" 4 x 4 engagement.

He was obviously driving through Montana when he hit that speed.
Back in my Day,...
Hey guys,
LP,..I'm new here, but I DO have a 98 XLT. When I was a whippersnapper,...used to regularly get it to 100 before the limiter conked it out,...NO desire to go faster, that's what the 125cc Shifter Kart was for!

I don't want to die. Not now...not like that....
Bubbabubba said, "I especially love the "shift on the fly" 4 x 4 engagement." Me too but the old geeezer in me still has no qualm with slowing down to change gear ranges.
I'll never test turning the **** on the dash from 2WD to 4WD at speeds above rolling because I don't ever have to. The book allows faster: no thanks.
edit: While I'm no expert on trailering and related hardware (I'm learning), My experience shows the 1 7/8" ball is fairly universal.
FYI: A U-Haul counterman told me a 2" ball is the size they use throughout the US and Canada.
