more bang for ur buck
hey everybody i am new to this site but i do own a ranger and was wondering what i could do to get more out of my ranger. more power and more torque all the good things you know ;-) but i dont want to resort to EE and get one of their X-Chargers yet PLEASE HELP any info would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm assuming youv'e got the SOHC, so powerwise --> XCAL, Underdrive Pulley Kit, Headers, Exhaust, Intake... switch to synthetic gear and engine oil, and changing gear ratio's will help depending on tire size. Can't quite think of anything else off the top of my head just yet though!
It's a tuner that reprograms your truck computer of better performance, mileage etc...
Wayne(a member here) sells them. He's a great guy to deal with.

what if we dont feel like messing with a tuner like the x cal, would a jet chip do the same thing is it worth it? since i put bigger tires the truck goes no where on the highway and my gas milage sucks.. i cant wait till i get 33's im going to get like 10mpg..
the xcal is a plug and play unit, takes 5 minutes to upload the program
a jet chip you have to, unhook the battery, pull the pcm, crack open the PCM, scrape all the goo off the pcm(also while being careful not to cut into the board), then put the chip on and reassemble, and hope like heck it works.
a jet chip takes alot more work than the xcal.

but with the x cal i have to trust the tuner, unless they give me the maps and i buy the software, im just worryed that ill get the xcal and i wont feel any diference then i will be forced to find the maps and tune it my selfe.. my friend is very knlowlegable about the software and sct tunes so tuning will not be an issue i just dnt want to go through all that if i can just throw a jet chip in there and be done with it..

first off when everyone that owns a XCAL2 is saying "buy one" its got to work, everyone isn't lying to you
second the tunes are either from Fred or Doug, both guys are very knowledgeable about rangers and their engines. They are getting the best tweaks money can buy for a direct plug as play.
3rd jet chips suck, they are the worst thing you could buy for tuning.
4th if you are not happy with it in any fashion i am sure either doug (www.bamachips.com) or Fred and Wayne (www.stuffforyourranger.com/store) would be more than happy to reimburse you or make it right. All of those guys are members on here and frequent the boards to make sure people are happy with their products.
I have been running a SCT tuner since 15k miles on the truck
first with Apten (Brian who now works with SCT)
Then with doug (bama chips)
and now have Fred's tunes
I have opinions on all three, but will admit they were all great tunes. Right now I am really enjoying Fred's work.
Been running them ever since with no issues because of the tuner. It is worth every penny. I have 106k miles on the clock now.
your way over thinking it.

thanx for lookin out man, im trying to save money for rims and tires but my truck slowed down alot since i put my 265's on so i need some more power before i get bigger tires just dont want to waste my money thats all..
had a jet programmer...also plugged into diagnostic port ended up erasing my ecu memory nearly $400 later my ranger is running again... i maybe only one who had this problem but still enough to make me steer clear of any future computer mods
