u could always try Collis truck n Fab up near allentown. i bought an engine from them for $600 (complete from intake to oil pan) with 90K on it that was running when removed and had a 6 month warrenty. plus they are already pulled and on a pallet ready for u to pick it up.

still running it today with putting over 15K on it and still purrs like a kitten. just another option.

do not get jasper ... that have crappy products ... ive seen many trans/engines with problems right off the bat .. they are junk. go with the ford reman ... the ford reman will be a long block.

i had just ran into this decision with a family members escape. ended up dropping in a ford reman, couldnt be happier, along with a good warrenty on it. if i was in your shoes i would go that route.

Jasper is actually headquartered out of Jasper, IN.....that is were their main location is at.......

i have never had a problem with them.....they have a pretty good warranty with them....

How would the stock harness/computers act with that thing? I bet that would tear up a transmission faster than the 1/8 mile track.


I dunno. I may just have to retire the truck for a month or two to plan out exactly what I want and not just slap something together. It might take me that long to install all the stuff I already have for it. lol

A diesel is out of the question, haha. I'm looking for torque. I'm talkin stump pullin, dirt grabbin, chebby crushin torque! I'll have to hit the books.

 

since you have a manual tranny, that engine will do nothing to the tranny....and the stock PCM and wiring harness would bolt right up......and mate that engine with the supercharger and dang...you would be a stump pullin, dirt grabbin, chebby crushin fool!

 

Yeah, go with and explorer express and do the supersix build with the the 8 to1 compression so you can crank that blower up a bit more. (I think it's about 8 to 1) The explorer express kit comes with a tune from bamachips, so he could have your pcm set up and that truck would be one HELL of a beast :)

 

lol good luck with your clutch with that much power ... i went through clutches in mine like they were nothing even driving nice, wheeling hurt it alot, even with the 4.88 gears and 35s i still smoked a clutch wheeling ... id be carefull with that much power and a stock clutch ... i also was going through gears in the trans ... rear out put shaft ... rear drive shaft twisted .... lmao maybe it was due to the lift or im hard on trucks but id be carefull

 

Damn! That's what I'm talking about. I'd have plenty of money to slap on a few things. It'd be nice to throw on some headers before it got dropped in. They make an aftermarket cam for the 4.0sohc? After headers and my dual flow40, a cam would just make it sound sick!

 

Go with a Reputable engine rebuilder, listen to what NicksterSVT says. Jasper is the way to go.

Let me tell you my sad story, My boys took my Ranger out jumping puddles and Hydrolocked the engine.

I ordered a long block engine from Checker auto. Checker gets their engines from Recon Engines. The first engine I recieved took 3 1/2 weeks to get (they promised 4 days). The engine was minus the ladder frame, oil pickup and oil pan. The ladder frame and oil pan were taken off the old engine. The oil pickup was a huge problem. The oil pump they put in the engine took a special pickup that could not be obtained locally. I could not even get one from the manufacturer. After two weeks Recon sent me the proper pickup. The engine upon startup had a cracked head. Coolant was leaking into cylinder 4 at an alarming rate.

It took another 3 1/2 weeks to get a warrenty replacement. The new engine was missing the oilpump drive. I took the oil pump drive out of the bad engine. The oil pump drive looked like some one took a hammer and chisel to it. It was severly damaged. Two weeks went by for Recon to supply me a decent albiet dirty oil pump drive. Every bolt hole in the engine was filled with crap. I had to clean the threads out of all the threads. The transmission dowell pin was missing on the engine. I went to ford to get a new one. The gasket set they sent with the engine was worthless. I could not get the valve cover gaskets and the intake manifold gaskets to seal. I finally went to Ford and bought the correct ones. I had a severe leak oilo leak comming from the top of the engine, it turned out they had drilled out the hole for the oil pump drive hold down to far and oil was leaking out thru the threads. I used High temp RTV to seal the threads. The engine is finally working fine. It did not seem to have as much power as the orginal one had. Two months and 2000 miles later, the engine starts making a marbling sound like the typical loose cam chain the 4.0 has. Than pop I loose power and the brakes don't work. I did a compression test on the engine, cylinders 4,5,& 6 have no compression. I took the intake manifold off and found antifreeze on the top of the engine. Hooked up an air compressor to the cylinders. Air is leaking between all the cylinders on the left side. This is where I am currently at. I plan on asking for a refund from Checker and buying a Jasper engine.

Well, I'm to the point of either getting biting the bullet and buying a remanufactured engine and fork over another $2k or I can get a boneyard motor for $800 with 20k miles on it. If I go the boneyard engine route, I can buy headers and a spec2 clutch and have them both installed while the engine is out.

Its only been a month or 2 since we stripped the truck and I have sold almost everything off of it. Some of the things I have listed still up for sale I could use on the 88 but if somebody wants it I will part with it.

I don't know what your deal is, what have I ever done to you ?
