P0455 Code keeps coming back and can't find name of a part pic in post
Hello all
vehicle is a 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0L V6 4WD 161K miles. It's 2 doors but with the little window behind the driver seat (cab and a half?)
126 inch wheel baseBed with the sidestep between rear tire and cab
Check Engine Light code P0455 keeps coming back after getting it fixed .
In 10/2020 @ 157K miles had fuel pump and filler neck replaced due to pump going bad and filler neck was so rusted that it broke
on 4/29/21 @ 160,xxx miles P0455 came back and vehicle would fail to start. Also replaced the rubber hose that connects the filler neck to the fuel tank, could not find an aftermarket or Ford part so got the closest hose I could find and trimmed it to fit. Also replaced the fuel vapor and vent pressure switch, and fuel pump relay and the pump itself again under warranty.
A few weeks ago 10/13/21 at 160,xxx miles CEL P0455 code came back did a smoke test for some time and did not see a leak, cleared code
Now, CEL came back P0455, smoked it for a few hours, found a leak at the canister (the round one) and the vent valve does not close when commanded so i want to replace that too.
There is this rectangular piece behind the canister and i see some smoke there. I called the dealer and they can't even find the part.
Anyone here know the name of the highlighted part, and part number?
Thank you

Welcome to the forum
Its called the Vapor Separator, but not a separate part as far as I know, which is why they didn't find it
EVAP assembly looks like this: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/EA3fm_UackQ/maxresdefault.jpg
With cover off it looks like this: https://www.explorerforum.com/forums...ly-jpg.164883/
The valves, sensors and hoses are separate parts, but I think the canister and vapor separator are consider a one part "assembly"
May need to hit wrecking yard to get just that part as replacement
P0455 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (gross leak)
This means the EVAP system can hold NO pressure at all, so a big leak, like no gas cap, or crack/hole in filler tube
So should not be that hard to find assuming its not a computer error, which it can be
P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)
This code is hard to find the leak
What I have done in the past to find "gross leaks" is to used a hose and wet rag/towel
Take gas cap off
Put hose in the tank just a little way in, then use the damp rag around the hose to seal the tank
Blow into the hose, human lungs can only generate about 2psi max. so you can't blow off fittings, lol, DO NOT USE an air compressor for this test, or you WILL blow of hoses
Tank should hold pressure, you can usually hear where air is coming out if it doesn't
Good to have a friend blowing while you listen, around the gas tank but also in the engine bay
If tank is holding pressure then its a pressure sensor or computer error, there is no "gross leak"
Smoke test is fine but................can be hard to find leaks in EVAP system, its better for intake manifold leaks

May I throw a curve ball at you?
There's an established parts and service source (machine shop, press work etc.) serving the New England states called Lavine's.
They had EVAP parts for my friend's ragged Chevy S10. Their "generic" parts cross reference was spot on and prices were low.
MAYBE you've something similar around The Windy City.
