I am trying to install the underdrive pullie for my 4.0. How do I stop the crank shaft from spinning when I try to loosen the crankshaft bolt. i left the belt on and when I try and loosen the bolt it turns the belt and all the other pullies. any Ideas would be appriciated, cause my next step is to a shop to have them deal with it an I just pay.

Well if you don't have air tools you can always put a breaker bar on the half inch ratchet and just give it one long sweeping turn and see if the bolt turns faster than the pulley and you're in luck. You can also jam a big flathead screwdriver through the hole in the pulley so that it won't turn once it catches wherever you set it up. Or else you can put the ratchet on the bolt and hit the bottom of the ratchet with a hammer which will jolt the bolt loose. Hopefully that's of some help.

I put a metal strap from one of the torque convertor bolts to the block.

One bit of advice- if you can't remove it how will you torque it? I made the mistake of not torqueing mine properly and it loosened up after time. In my case is was easy to do. I have a manual and all I had to do was put it in first gear, which I didn't do to torque it down. I tightened as good as the turning engine would let me and it wasn't good enough.

Hence, one half the reason I use a metal strap.

Putting it in 5th gear works better than 1st gear.......

To loosen it, you can also put a breaker bar on the bolt, and the end against the frame. Then bump the starter. Before doing this, remove the connector on the coil pack (NOT the plug wires).
