Slow Acceleration 2001 Ranger V6 4.0 Automatic

I have had this Ranger for about a year now and it has very poor acceleration. When I floor it the RPM's go up to about 3000 and stay at 3000, and the car doesn't move any faster. It's almost like it's in neutral but it stays at a constant speed when I floor it. When I try to accelerate at a normal rate the truck is very slow to get up to speed. I have replaced the fuel filter a week ago, the plugs and wires a few months ago, cleaned the MAF and tested the TPS, I tested the ERG and its fine. I have run out of ideas on what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the throttle cable? They are known to stretch not allowing for wide open throttle.

There are many threads here on this subject.

Do you have a check engine light on and codes in the computer?

I am guessing this truck acted this way since you have had it.

For now check the throttle cable, have someone hold the pedal to the floor while the engine and key is off. then see if the throttle can be opened further at the throttle body with your hand.

If so check this website for the throttle cable mod.

I've checked the throttle cable and it is fine, it has never been this bad where it has lost this much power.

You might consider checking to see if the catalytic converter is restricted. I don't have any suggestions as to how to check it but they can get contaminated and restrict exhaust flow.

How many miles on your truck?

Is the check engine light on or flashing?

Have you or anyone replaced the Camshaft synchronizer ?

Like IN2 FX4 mentioned you may have clogged exhaust. Yet I would think you would have a check engine light on.
