i have a 1999 ranger 4x4 super cab. when i start to slow down or am idling my engine will sputter and idle at 5-7 thousand rpm. then sometimes it will stall as i slow down. also the oil gauge will fall to zero and flicker back and forth when im slowing down, does anyone have any idea of what the problem/prblems may be?

 

throttle position sensor would be my guess. My girlfriend's '94 does the same thing.

 

may be the iac valve too

 

i cleaned out my throttle position sensor and it fixed it. i used CC electronics cleaner

 

Dont forget to clean out/replace the IAC as well if the problem continues
