starting problems.

When i try to start my truck it makes a screechy clunky noise. It sounds like my starters not ingagein/disingagein right, but when i took it off i couldent see anything wrong with it. If it starts it runs fine, but most of the time it just makes the noise and just stops turnin over. Its a '89 with the 2.9 and its got the junky 5 speed.

Tell you if the gears are engaging properly. You said you looked at it and it looked fine, but you didn't take it apart so...

you could take the starter to autozone etc have it bench tested maybe that will reveal something

It sounds like the starter solenoid is going bad or the starter itself. When it does it try tapping on it with a hammer(lightly) and then try to start the truck again. If it starts its probably the starter, if not you have other problems to look into.

The syleniod probably going bad. This would not let the starter fully engage. You should fix this pronto because it could play he** on your flywheel. It could also be bad teeth on the flywheel or the starter teeth
