Temperature gauge not moving

The temperature gauge on my ranger didnt work when I got it. I replaced the sending unit, The one next to the thermostat with one wire going to it. No change.
If I ground the single wire out to the engine the gauge jumps up to the top, so I imagine that the gauge is working.
So from what i am thinking the gauge and the wire are good, and i tried a second sending unit so i am reasonably sure that is good. I'm at a loss. Is there something inline between the gauge and the sending unit I should be checking?

Thanks
-Scott

Try changing your thermostat.

Sorry forgot that. I changed the thermostat when I changed the sending unit. The heating system works great, blows out real hot air.

So anyone know if there is any other componet besides the gauge, wire and sending unit? Seems wierd that the gauge moves when I ground the wire but doesnt even wiggle with the new sending unit.
