ticking sound?????

ticking sound?????

i have a 2006. fx4 ranger. v6 4.0 5 speed...soo ive got a ticking sound,seams to be coming from left side of the engine from undderneath..not sure what it is thought it might be low oil but it wasnt...the speed of the tick increases while i eccelerate...dont really know whats up thanks for any advice..

I have the same thing with my 06 sport, thought maybe something was stuck in the tire, but I have not found anything yet. I will watch this thread, let me know if you find out anything and I will do likewise.

if its faint, thats just the sound it makes. the 4.0 SOHC has kind of a noisy valvetrain..

i noticed mine quieted down when is witched to 5w30 full synthetic.

good luck man. hopefully its not anythign serious. i'd check your pulleys and stuff and see if anything is making a noise. maybe you can single it out that way

I have a 1997 so obviously its older but I had the same thing happen and it did stop when I used a higher octane fuel. Not sure if it's quite what your looking for, but all my pulleys and belts were in fine condition so thats the only other thing that was relatively easy that I could try.

Ive had that in my '01 for several years.. its jsut a noisy engine - truck performs jsut fine :-)

i have that too. i went underneath and it sounded like it was comming from the oil pan or where the bellhousing meets the engine. performs fine though, and i only notice it in the drive thru or idling next to the wall or something. can't hear it over the exhaust :-P

i have the same exact thing, my truck performs just fine. i also cant hear mine unless in a drive through or next to a wall, and i def cant hear it over my exhaust LOL
