Timing chain tensioners
Timing chain tensioners
Question:
What is the safest way to crank the engine over without having it start and not pump fuel into cylinders
I want to get some oil pressure before it starts
One guy said to disconnect the crank senor.
I noticed holding thee gas peddle to the floor also will prevent it from starting. (Does this method still pump fuel into the cylinders). I did this once for a few seconds but when it did start it sounded like a diesel engine for a few seconds. Scary
Thanks

Key to "ON" position. Dashboard lights up.
Press gas pedal all the way to the floor. Make sure you're not leaving your foot in some familiar, comfortable position. ALL the way to the floor.
This turns off the fuel (and ignition.?). If it doesn't work you can check for a slightly stretched accelerator cable. An easy fix for that involves using a small tie wrap to extend the button on the cable's end.
Crank engine. My 4.0l needs 6 to 8 seconds to put out the oil pressure idiot light depending on outside temperature.
Release key, release gas pedal, start engine as normal. You'll get a nice quiet start.
Some old guy here posted the procedure......can't recall the name..
I had always experienced a harsh, 2 second squeal upon startup. No more.

Above is called "Clear Flooded Engine" mode, all fuel injection vehicles have this
You can also pull the Fuel Pump Relay in the engine fuse box, there may(should) still be residual pressure at the injectors so engine may briefly fire but will die quickly and then will not fire again until relay is put back in place
It will set a code, but code will self clear once relay is back in place

EngineColdStart Procedure
If V6~4.0L~SOHC Engine hasn't run for 12 hours or longer, this EngineColdStart routine is recommendedfor general PreLub of the Engine critical components & specificly to PrePressurize the TimingTensioners.
- Turn Key To RUN Not START, Let InstrumentCluster Lamp+BuzzerTest Complete
- Push+Hold GasPedal To Floor, InstrumentCluster OilPressureNeedle Should Be At Zero
- Turn Key To START, Let Engine CRANK Without Starting Until OilPressureNeedle Moves Or ~10secs
- Let Key SpringReturn To RUN, Engine CRANK Should Stop
- Release GasPedal, Turn Key To START; When Engine STARTS, Let Key SpringReturn To RUN
- OilPressureNeedle Should Quickly Rise+Hold At MidGage Position
