Add 3-quarts (5-6 quarts if the torque convener was drained) of fluid to the transmission through the filler tube.

I get roughly 4 quarts out with the pan and filter.

This system holds 10 so if you goal is changing the fluid this isn't enough.

I've done mine twice in the 1.5 years I've owned my '03. It only has 63K miles on it but it had never been changed. Its not a complete fluid change by any means but dropping the pan and replacing the filter definitely is a good thing. IIRC mine took a little over 4qts each time. I let it drain for a few hours though with the pan & filter off. Sure is a messy job....no matter how careful you are you're definitely going to ruin a shirt.

Last time I did mine I drilled a hole in the pan and put a drain plug in it

I've been wanting to do that but I was scared of having a leak. I need to find a spare pan to try it with.

Did you use any particular brand? I've seen B&M, the parts store (O'reilly, Adavance, etc) kits, and so on. They all kinda look like the same thing...anything that would help with the trans fluid in your armpits, garage floor, etc. when you try to change the fluid would help...lol...seems no matter how hard I try it still makes a mess.

If you are worried about leaks the bigger aluminum a4ld pan fits, its just 250 bucks.

Get the universal drain plug from advance etc... and drill the 1/2 hole and tig weld it in the pan. I'll have mine posted this spring when I swap to my new pan.
