Hey guys, its me again. I found out what was making a rattling noise on my truck, it was the heat shield on the catalytic converter (thanks jtfoxman), anyways, I also have another problem. Since I bought the 2000 Ranger, my truck has been jerking badly. When I sit, put it in gear, and take off, it jerks. It also jerks when changing gears, and stopping. I wonder if it is my slip yoke, or something else? Can anyone help me?

 

So it only jerks when your moving? And what noise does it make.

i used to have a similar problem, every time me ex used to get in or out of my truck it would kinda jerk to the right… never figured out what I was

i had the same problem with my truck.....it was a dead plug......check ALL your plugs to see if they are working properly....

Well depending on what year your truck is, there is a TSB that matches some of your symptoms:

But I would check the plugs first before going to Ford about a TSB.

 

My truck is an automatic. It doesn't make a noise. It just jerks really badly. I am going to check my plugs like a lot of you said, and I will get back to you. I hope I fix this!!

 

Can you be more specific on the 'jerking'? Does it do it only on take off, constant speed, etc.? I'm troubleshooting some odd behavior with mine. It tends to buck, bobble & jerk at idle (park, in gear doesn't matter) or constant speed on the road, worse with the air on. gas mileage has gone to hell (used to get about 15-16 town, 18-21 hwy but now 13-14 town 15-17 hwy.) 3 mechanics haven't found anything, other than the fuel pressure regulator was closed off, making the truck run rich to compensate for less gas. That made little difference in running, nothing in mileage. This is a 2000 4.0 auto 4x4, 71k miles.

 

Mine is a 2000 XLT 4.0, and it jerks on takeoff, changing gears, and stopping. I don't know what the hell is wrong with it.
