Volants intake box i think is a little different, i dont think S&B has a fender well opening. I think it just has the opening in the front.

If so volant can pull more air with less restriction.

But i honestly bought it cause well I have looked into most intakes and have always heard great things about volant.

so cant argue with that.

EDIT:

is it s&b or sbc?

if sbc what is that?

i kind of want an aftermarket intake.

would it be any better then a stock one with the airbox mod and a drop in k&n?

i also dont want to get water in there. i do a bit of mudding.

and as far as the fenderwell intake goes, i have one on my grand prix, and love it.

S&B doesn't make one for the 98+ trucks, not that I could find at least.

Hmm intesresting well i by far prefer my volant over k&n with airbox intake. Yes the volant intake allows more airflow than the k&n with airbox mod.

That should work on SOHC 4.0 engines from 01 up to 03.

Don't want to create a argument.

Wouldn't this be the same as the factory air box, but with a cone filter you can clean.

I know all the haters of the K&N system say that the factory one is a CAI anyway.

This looks just like one just a little more fancy.

The Volant and S&B have larger inlet openings to let more air in.

Ive Had Both haha

NO the factory tube and cone are not as good as a real "short ram" intake.

alltho better than stock, the filter sucked and i had to ghetto a heat sheld and adapter, plus it was sort of embarrassing lol.

*The new and better S&b kit. It dose have a front & side fender openings that are very generous and effective, plus as shown it keeps the mud/water out.
When I went for a smog, One place failed my truck because I did not have the carb sticker attached to the air box! Since s&b forgot mine i called them up and they sent me a sticker really quick. If i had my ghetto custom thingy it may not have been smog-able..

its a belt driven centrifugal supercharger..

looks similar to a turbo but a turbo runs off exhaust gases..

your prob more familiar with Screw/Roots style superchargers which is throwing you off...

Superchargers can have Pressure relief valves to keep from over boosting at low speeds...
