What to consider in rebuilding ohv 4.0

Hello world,

I am new in this forum and I surf it for a lot of time. Now I consider to contribute in this forum since I am in Middle East I need a lot of help in order to build up my engine because I will order the parts from abroad that will cost me time and money.

I saw many issue regarding the gasket set issue what brand to use ?. Many says that market folded with garbage brands. So what to consider.

The master rebuild kit what company is the best? I saw many scolding engine tech products which seems fine to me.

I am no looking for a race car, I am looking for off road car with a good performance but I like to tune my truck.

My car is ranger splash 1996 ohv 4.0 automatic transmission with R6 axel type.

I don't wish to swap with another engine I do believes that my car should own its original identity.

With best regards

Fel Pro for the gasket kits, at least that is the manufacturer I used on my 5.0L and my 289 rebuilds and if I were to rebuild another, not soon though, I would go back to Fel Pro.

When you are doing the rebuild consider a cam replacement with a little more lift than stock, something from CompCams. If no cam is on the budget at least consider higher lift Rocker Arms for a little additional power.

Good Luck on the rebuild.

First, check the cam lopes for wear, if there are any signs of wear then it needs to be replaced. Also, check the bottoms of the Lifters, again if wear then replace.

The last thing you want to do is not replace something that sees a lot of rpms and wear and have it fail.

I was thinking Rocker Arms if you weren’t doing a cam with a little higher lift not Lifters.

Search on this sight, there are write ups on replacing the Rocker Arms.

I am thinking yes on the push rods, there is a higher lift Rocker Arm Kit with pushrods.

Look at the price of both the Rocker Arm Kit and a new Cam Kit and I stress KIT because everything will match.
