Will a 92' ECU work in a 93' 4.0?

Very long story short the shop told me my ranger needs a new computer and a maf clean and he said they don't sell them anymore and the repair shops went out of business over covid etc so I should just scrap it but I'm obviously not giving up that easy

when I took it out the pins were corroded and I took it apart to find every capacitor leaking and burnt corrosion everywhere (not sure how it even ran) there's only a couple F37F-12A650-XB computers on ebay and they're more money than I have right now, I've looked everywhere and discovered cardone made some and was able to find a 1992 4.0 2wd auto trans (mines a 1993 4.0 4x4 auto but I heard 2wd and 4x4 don't matter I'm just wondering about the year)

I need the truck fixed, I only have $200 to spend (dont judge normally ranger computers are 70 bucks or less but apparently mines rare) so if anyone finds a compatible computer or anything please let me know and thanks for your time it's much appreciated! rockauto, local auto parts store websites and ebay all have the 92' and 95' 4wd 4.0 auto trans computers for cheap but no 93 the only other option is risking $160 to ship it to some ebay repair shop which could take months I don't know and is my crusty 30yo computer even salvageable? looks burnt in spots and obviously no returns when they do the work... also if they're only replacing capacitors vs everything else I'd just feel better about a new clean one but I don't have $370-500+ right now

Here's all the info: 1993 ford ranger 4.0L 4x4 automatic trans extended cab 2 door short bed xlt
computer part number: F37F 12A650 XB

the cardone was #78-5508

You will need a 1993 or 94 4.0l for automatic computer, you are correct 2WD or 4x4 don't matter

Try https://www.car-part.com/

1993
Ford Ranger
Computer box engine
Skip areas
YOUR Zipcode(or postal code in Canada)
SEARCH

New window opens
Select: Electronic Control Module, 6-245 (4.0L), 4x4, AT, ID F37F-XB
Towards the bottom
Search

Should see a few come up, usually around $100, most will do shipping
Yes, the 1994 Mazda B4000 computer will work in a 1993 Ranger
You should open it up and if capacitors are blue change them to Black, but up to you, they will fail, under $5 to replace

Thanks so much, a bunch of 94 B4000's came up and I'm about to go to the nearest junkyard but then I thought, what if this replacement computer is the same or worse than mine? it's still 29 years old (supposedly they go bad in 15 to 20 years) and I can't replace capacitors. If I could I'd just do it on my existing bad one, anyways I'm not trying to sound rude or question you but I just want to double check that you're sure a "1994Engine ComputerMazda Pickup Not Rotary B4000" will work? I'm trying to get the ranger as reliable as possible for my own reasons

Thanks again Ron

Yes, it will work
Open it up at the wrecking yard and have a look at it, just a couple of screws, they won't care

The capacitors should have a FLAT top, if its starting to dome on the top its going bad, or if its leaking of course
And Ford did use the Black capacitors in some computers or you may find one that the Caps have already be changed in, i.e. rebuilt before the accident that put the truck in the wrecking yard

A rebuilt one will still be 29+ years old, it will just be cleaned up, surface only, and have the 2 or 3 new capacitors(hopefully, lol)
Ford quit making these in 1994, so even off the shelf never been used, new in the box, would still be 29 years old

Thank you for all the help, I was about to pick up a mazda computer like we talked about the other day but someone asked if I checked rockauto and I already had last week so now that they reminded me I double checked just for the hell of it and rockauto ended up posting only one of my exact part number rebuilt with a 1 year warranty and 30 day return for $144 bucks so I ordered that as fast as I possibly could and I'm really excited because it's been a long journey and I've been stressed because I thought it was rare and everyone around me just said to scrap it. anyways Thank you for your help I'm definitely learning alot through this and I hope the computer is the last piece of the puzzle, and this wasn't a complete waste discussing this since I find myself reading other people's forum conversations to help with similar problems so someone else will get use out of it since I've been seeing hundreds of comments about needing the computer I've been looking for
