Alright, so I either need to weld my y pipe or get a new one. I found one on Summit ( http://m.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-40279), but not sure if it would work. My truck has the "California emissions" bullshit with two extra cats, but they're not needed for me in PA. Can I get a y pipe without the cats? Or do I absolutely need one with cats for my engine to function properly...?

One cat will give you enough back pressure, along with the stock exhaust. if you go high flow on the exhaust, you MIGHT have trouble with back pressure, but the biggest effect will be loss of torque at a lower RPM. as long as your sure the part fits and the single cat is enough to pass you on a E-test, you should be OK.

 

I did not know they sold these! i need to replace mine too..long story but do they have one that fits the 3.0?

I was just looking at this y pipe after following your link. The application chart shows it fits the early 80's models of the bronco and ranger with a V8. Are you sure this will work on your '01 Ranger? I am looking for exactly the same thing for my '06 4.0L Ranger. However I would prefer a 2.5 inch. I'm also wondering is this Walker y-pipe mendrel bent? If I only install one cat on each side, will sticking to 2.25 inch y-pipe instead of 2.5 inch help keep my back pressure as it should be if I am running high flow cats and a flowmaster muffler? And if I stick to a 2.25 inch y-pipe, should I run a 2.25 inch muffler? I was planning on running a single 2.5 inch flowmaster. Keep us posted, I'm curious what you find out. I'll have to search it better, sorry. I'm on my phone because the internet at my house blows. I just really want to know if I can get rid of the two cats on the y pipe, and just keep the O2 sensor. Sorry again for the wrong link
