Electric Fuel Pump Options

My Ranger has an electric fuel pump in front of the gas tank. Carb has been running dry so I put a pressure gage on it. It starts out low at 3 PSI (can't raise it with the regulator) then drops to almost zero after idling for several minutes. Let it rest for 5 minutes, same thing. Wondering if the pump is shot. Will be checking for bad grounds and clogged pickup tomorrow. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Should be 7-9psi for carb

But yes reads like either the "sock"(filter) in the tank is clogged or pump is failing.

Since pressure starts building and then drops, "sock" would be good guess

Plan on dropping the gas tank and then cleaning it out with soap and water, 30+ years of crud in there.

Lesson learned: Check your grounds AND check the power source! Good fuel flow from tank and good grounds, so I put in a new pump - same issue. Pump was hot, so I checked voltage at safety switch and got 11.2 - Hmmm. Got 12.2 on battery, so I chased the power lead from solenoid to switch. Found 7, count 'em, seven crimp splices plus a grungy 30 amp (!) fuse block. Ran a new wire with 5 amp fuse and presto, 12.1 volts at start and 14 running. Better yet, it holds steady at 5 PSI. Ah the simple things in life. Now going through the whole wiring harness - this puppy has been through some rough handling
