in 2012 im going to put a ....

In 2012 I’m going to put a v8 in my 87. I’m thinking about doing with a 351w stroked and bored to a 392, Forged pistons, 9.7:1 compression ratio, Forged steel connecting rods, Hydraulic roller high performance camshaft, High performance T-sump oil pan, MSD billet distributor, Ford Racing aluminum GT-40 cylinder heads, and GT-40 valve train, 177 Pro–Street Supercharger, and a Holly Fuel Injection system

what do you all think about it

Oh no, it'll still be around. I got it in late '97. It was my grandfather's truck. It's already been in an accident and been through two motors and I've still kept it.

hm.... 6 years and you think your mind wont change?

dont get me wrong, its a good plan. but dont you think you are looking to far down the road... besides emissions realy shouldnt be that big of an issue for something already 20 years old...

Well start that buildup now so it's ready in six years.

I might change my mind but I have always planed on 1 of 2 things, a bad a** svo 2.3 turbo or a fast small block. And that small block ant cheep so it will take time. 2012 is an estimate.

But who know? Its 6 years down the road, I might say f-it and just restore it

Yeah you do that, while you're working on it I'll be converting mine to use the latest in hovercar technology. That way I can take to the skies not just be restricted to the ground, and I'll be saving the planet while using my Mr. Fusion. Come on now man I think it's a good thing to plan ahead but that's a bit two far ahead, you don't have a clue where technology will put us in the next 6 years. Hell 6 years ago TRS was almost new, and look where it's at today, if I'm not mistaken alot of us were just starting to think about driving aswell. All I'm saying is don't plan on that 351 to soon, something better may be out by then. Oh and you think emissions is strict now wait til then, you won't even be able to think about that swap without setting off alarms because everything will be running on hydrogen or whatever, some alternative fuel with extremely little or no emissions. The good news is everyone would probably get out of yor wat when they see that thing going down the street.

What ever floats your boot?

The 351 has bin around since the early 60s, racer bin using it ever since, that has not changed in over 40 year. Why will it change in the next 6 year?

Historic baby, historic, in Maryland if your car or truck is 25 years or older and you get historic license plates you don’t have emissions tests

The good news is everyone would probably get out of yor wat when they see that thing going down the street.
That’s what I want

Hmmm... I wonder what the cost of gas will be in 6 years. $4/gallon is definitely not out of the question. I somehow think V8 and especially large V8 swaps will start to fade in popularity. Possibly more V6 and I4 turbo / supercharged engines and definitely Diesel swaps.

I know if I did not start on the 351W swap overa year ago, I would probalby be looking to do a 3L Powerstroke swap if I had it to do over again.

If gas gets that bad I might run it on Alcohol.

When and if I do the swaps the truck will not be a daily driver.

He means that you may end up with a slower truck than us because while you have an oldschool big block V8 we could be running engines that are insanely fast off of new technology.

And I hate the price of gas. I hate it i hate it i hate it.

OK, I think this would be a very bad idea. You will be making a modification to the truck that costs more then the truck.

I think by 2012 you will want a different kind of vehicle.

Basically Aaron got it. While you're running that gass guzzling V8 the rest of us will be swaping up to newer more efficient, and more powerful engines that run on cheaper power source. Now I'm not saying that you or I will not have a V8 Ranger in 2012, I'm just saying don't get your hopes up something beter may come along. Don't count your chickens before they hatch type thing.

Emissions laws are going to get stricter as time goes by, and the older cars won't be safe from it forever. I'm not saying I want that to happen hell in 2012 I want to be well on my way to driving a twin-turbocharged, fuel injected, BBF powered, streetable 1967-8 Mustang fastback. Am I going to dump every other possibility to make it turn out exactly like I want it, no, but I'm going to strive for it, and accept the changes that come along the way.

WTF? Maybe we'll make hokey lil versions of our truck because we cannot find the money to actually mod a vehicle, but somehow waste hundreds on a lil piece of plastic?

yaaah...

The truck was my grandfather's. One of the only things I got from my grandfather. So I’m going to keep it.

It will not be a daily diver it will be a street rod.

And like you all said Its 6 years down the road, I might say f-it and just restore it.

But I understand your port. I will keep it in mind.
