In 2012 I知 going to put a v8 in my 87. I知 thinking about doing with a 351w stroked and bored to a 392, Forged pistons, 9.7:1 compression ratio, Forged steel connecting rods, Hydraulic roller high performance camshaft, High performance T-sump oil pan, MSD billet distributor, Ford Racing aluminum GT-40 cylinder heads, and GT-40 valve train, 177 Pro亡treet Supercharger, and a Holly Fuel Injection system
what do you all think about it

Yeah you do that, while you're working on it I'll be converting mine to use the latest in hovercar technology. That way I can take to the skies not just be restricted to the ground, and I'll be saving the planet while using my Mr. Fusion. Come on now man I think it's a good thing to plan ahead but that's a bit two far ahead, you don't have a clue where technology will put us in the next 6 years. Hell 6 years ago TRS was almost new, and look where it's at today, if I'm not mistaken alot of us were just starting to think about driving aswell. All I'm saying is don't plan on that 351 to soon, something better may be out by then. Oh and you think emissions is strict now wait til then, you won't even be able to think about that swap without setting off alarms because everything will be running on hydrogen or whatever, some alternative fuel with extremely little or no emissions. The good news is everyone would probably get out of yor wat when they see that thing going down the street.

Hmmm... I wonder what the cost of gas will be in 6 years. $4/gallon is definitely not out of the question. I somehow think V8 and especially large V8 swaps will start to fade in popularity. Possibly more V6 and I4 turbo / supercharged engines and definitely Diesel swaps.
I know if I did not start on the 351W swap overa year ago, I would probalby be looking to do a 3L Powerstroke swap if I had it to do over again.

Basically Aaron got it. While you're running that gass guzzling V8 the rest of us will be swaping up to newer more efficient, and more powerful engines that run on cheaper power source. Now I'm not saying that you or I will not have a V8 Ranger in 2012, I'm just saying don't get your hopes up something beter may come along. Don't count your chickens before they hatch type thing.
Emissions laws are going to get stricter as time goes by, and the older cars won't be safe from it forever. I'm not saying I want that to happen hell in 2012 I want to be well on my way to driving a twin-turbocharged, fuel injected, BBF powered, streetable 1967-8 Mustang fastback. Am I going to dump every other possibility to make it turn out exactly like I want it, no, but I'm going to strive for it, and accept the changes that come along the way.

Like I said it was an idea. I might change my mind but I have always planed on 1 of 2 things, a bad a** svo 2.3 turbo or a fast small block. And that small block ant cheep so it will take time. 2012 was an estimate if I get a better job it might get dun sooner. And I like the old school stuff. If gas gets that bad I might run it on Alcohol.
The truck was my grandfather's. One of the only things I got from my grandfather. So I知 going to keep it.
It will not be a daily diver it will be a street rod.
And like you all said Its 6 years down the road, I might say f-it and just restore it.
But I understand your port. I will keep it in mind.
