4.6L swap?

I have access to a 4.6L V8 out of a 2000 Mustang GT. Will it bolt up to the transmission in the 96 4x4 XLT extended cab, automatic, that currently has an ailing 4.0 in it? If it will, can anyone point me towards any articles or information on this particular swap? Heading towards the search box now to start wading through the information that might already be here!! :)

No, 4.0l used Cologne pattern

4.6l had two different patterns, early and late, early matched small block Windsor pattern, late matched Modular pattern

You can look here for matches: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...using_patterns

I think 1991 and 1992/3 were the windsor, then in 1994 it switched to the Modular pattern, but look that up to be sure

If you have the 4.6l then measure its width
The problem is width in the Ranger engine bay
The 5.0l OHV(302) engine, which was the popular V8 swap, is only 19" wide, so fit between steering shaft and heater box "mostly", lol
And exhaust could be run inside the frame rails
If engine gets too wide then you have to start moving stuff out of the way, which complicates the build

Anything CAN be done, that's not the point, never is, lol, you just have to decided if its worth it for the end result

Ford Ranger 4.6l build here: https://therangerstation.com/forums/...d.php?t=139482
Its been done a few times so just google it
