5.0 carb 2008

so sorry if this has already been asked im new to this page and still trying to figure out how to use it! i searched and tried to find something that would help but havent found anything!

im swapping a 1995 mustang 302 into my 2008 b4000 4x4. ive decided to go carb for now since i heard its easier, quicker and i just want to learn about carburetors so i thought it would be fun.this is my first ever swap so i have a few questions! ive got the engine in and the tranny is ready to get put in once im ready, i have the m5od r2 from an f250. so for now im going to work on the wiring. i need some help with that, should i keep the wiring harness for my truck and thin it out, should i just wire it with a push to start or any other options! also will i be able to keep the distributor that came with the engine, its an msd ignition blaster tfi (not really sure what that is exactly)

thanks in advance im a newbie when it comes to this, mostly wiring!

Welcome to the forum

You are going to have some problems
In 2004 Rangers and B-series were converted to full digital
If there is any way possible to sell the 2008 as is or fix it and get a 2003 or earlier Ranger/Mazda with blown engine or trans you will be alot better off

The 2008 will need a 2001-2003 instrument cluster and cab wiring harness for it, and cab fuse box, also main light switch and its wiring I believe
If you are good at automotive wiring then its doable, if you are not good at automotive wiring you WILL BE when you are done, lol

The actual V8 engine swap with manual trans and transfer case won't be that hard
Yes, you will use the distributor and coil
Also need a fuel pressure regulator with return, to drop 60psi pressure down to the 7psi a carb needs, you will need to pull out the fuel pump assembly to remove the 60psi regulator, your added 7psi regulator will be next to current fuel filter on the frame rail

There are many Ranger V8 swap articles for all the bits and pieces needed
But as said the 2008 will be the hard part, well 2004 and up

You don't need many engine wires
Just a 12v key on wire for spark system
12v key on wire for fuel pump relay, assuming you use electric fuel pump

Temp gauge, 1 wire
oil pressure, 1 wire
Neither will work with 2008 cluster

Starter motor activation, 1 wire
Alternator/charging system, 1 wire
These are both separate systems, in the engine bay

2004 and up the cluster gets speed, oil pressure, engine temp from the engine computer(PCM) which of course won't be working without correct engine and trans hooked up
All the warning lights on the cluster come from their modules via the CAN Bus network
The 2003 and earlier analog clusters used a ground wire from each specific module to light up a warning light, 2008 modules don't have that, as far as I know

The engine wiring is not a concern at all, with a carb setup
Getting a working instrument cluster and cab electric system is
