5.0 mpg
Now I most definately did not buy a 5.0 ranger for it's fuel economy but i'm getting just over 18.5 mpg with the truck, and the most i've ever got is 19.75 The truck is efi with shorty headers and a moderate cam.
I was wondering what you other 302 guys are getting, just out of curiosity.

Yea don't get me wrong, I love the gase mileage i'm getting. My old truck was a 91 with 2.3. It was an absolute dog and only got 19's. Now I have over two and a half times the HP and about the same gase mileage.

The milage between each application is going to variate. VBehical weights, driving habits of each individual driver.. Carb/Efi/ Timing, Cam Profile, Head flow/ spark system.. They all have a factor and can variate up to 10mpg ( big loppy cam and a carb might make 12mpg, a well tuned EFI setup CAN make 22mpg ). 10mpg is a lot/extreeme, but it is a reality.
Emissions laws/equipping are whats going to cause ( probably ) the biggest variance in efficiency between all the trucks.

I completely agree with you 'D', but that's half the fun of this thread to see what others are getting with what type of set up. No one drops in a 302 for fuel economy.
For more detail on mine EFI 302, moderate cam, shorty headers, dumped exhaust, 3.73 rear gear, 31" tires, with an AOD transmission. Very loose emissions laws here in michigan...

The 302 is out of a 93 mustang and the cam is pretty heavy b/c it 'lopes' quite a bit at idle. Sounds wicked though. Kinda gives it away. I don't have any sound bites b/c I don't have a camera, but where in michigan are you?
