5.0 swap

I have a 2000 ford ranger with a 5.0 in it. It had the 3.0 originally. I was in an accident and the truck is totaled. I have a chance to buy a 2000 ford ranger 4x4 but it has the 4 cylinder. Is it any more difficult to mut the v8 in it than the one with the 3.0?

No, it should be about the same but 4cyl does have a cross brace in the engine bay for drivers side motor mount, cross brace will need to be removed.

4cyl 4x4 Ranger is pretty rare after 1997, almost a Unicorn, none were made 2001-2011

1998 and up 4x4s used torsion bars instead of coil springs, so that will be different, seen here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...spension.shtml

Doesn't really effect the swap

You can just use it as 2WD, assuming thats what your wrecked Ranger was
If you want to use the 4WD then you will need a 5.0l 4WD transmission, your current 2WD V8 transmission won't bolt to a transfer case, and no way to adapt it

no mine is a 4wd. I had done a lot of work to it. I have a bw4406 transfer case in it from a f150. I have the explorer rearend in it. I did the coil over conversion. Fox shocks. Pretty much wanted to cry when it got wrecked. Lol. Not a big deal about the cross member. I do metal fabrication. I was mostly just unsure of the wire harness. I also have never seen a 4 cyl. So I didn’t know if the engine harness would plug in like it did on the 3.0. The one I’m looking at to buy was a fleet truck. Very plane Jane 4 cyl. 4wd. No rust. Bad head gasket. Hopefully I can pick it up cheap. Hard to find rust free rangers in upstate New York where I live.

I don't see any difference in the Power diagrams I have for the 2000 Rangers, i.e. there will usually be indicator on diagram if 2.5l(4cyl) was different than V6

With and without power group did have differences

It would only let me upload 3 pdfs here, uploaded #4 in previous post

Nice. Thank you very much. I have the ford book for ranger and explorer I bought off ebay but can’t seem to find them since I moved last.
