We just bought an 87 4x4 ranger with a carbed 302 and C4 trans. It has 4:10 gears (we were told) and runs about 3000 rpm on the hwy. We would like to put a 5 speed in it. If that is not possible is there an auto w/OD that will work with a carb motor? Thanks.

Look for a trans out of a mid 80's f1/2/350 with the 302/351w. Im not sure when the AOD came into play.

You can run a newer AODE/4r70w with a stand alone 600 dollar controller.

 

Thanks. We're on the hunt. This is actually my 17 yr old sons 1st truck. (He bought it with his own money--I just helped find it) It is unbelievable how much fun a little jacked up 4x4 truck with a 302 is to drive. Gonna have to build one of my own....
