94 4x2 , mod5 tranny, strong engine, No eceleration.
I have a 94 with a carbed 302. I'm running dual exhaust no catalytic converters. I have a Edelbrock avs2 the engine is strong. But I have a stock 8.8 rear end. mod5 transmission out of a 93 f150. It just seems not to have any, off the line acceleration in my top end speed is 75 miles per hour. Can somebody give me any advice of what to do. Either go with a c4 or t5 or different rear end? or what can I do with this mod five ans rear end to make it pick up faster?
I got an hei distributor, I had a dura spark 2 old school set up. But, let me give a little more detail. 😁 The eceleration isnt horrible, but I feel like I should have alot more off the line power. To me it feels like I'm driving a beefy 2.3.? I mean , I feel like I should chirp tire. The other issue is poor gas mileage. On half a tank of gas I can drive 40 miles before empty. But, I do live in a hilly suburban part of Pittsburgh.
HEI is the way to go, GM doesn't do much right, but when they did the HEI spark system they did GOOD
Are you running ported or regular vacuum advance?
Pull out 2 or 3 easy to get at spark plugs and see what the tips tell you, i.e. Rich Running, darker browns even blackish which contrary to popular belief gives you LESS power, lol
If so you are "over jetted" need to drop down a size or two
I got the hei from Amazon. It's the clear long shaft one designed for the FI to carb conversion. If anyone knows what I'm talking about 😂? But I did order the edlebrock 1948 calibration tune kit. I'm going to take the truck and the tune kit. To a shop that does performance Dyno. And see if they can figure it out.
But, what I was trying to get a confirmation. From one of you experts out there. That the m5od and my stock 8.8 rear end, should make the truck hull ***. See I'm a marine mechanic, and transmission and rear ends are out of my wheelhouse.
Well F2 just means 1992 in Fords numbering system, F3 = 1993, E9 would be 1989
Next letter "T" is for truck
"A" is for Light Truck Engineering Division
