Does the year matter?

I have a manual 1995 2wd ranger with a 2.3, and i plan on swapping a 302 into it. Does it matter what the year is of the 302 that i'm swapping in or no?

There are many different variations of the 302 and from lots of different donor vehicles. There are several different heads, roller cams or flat tappets, all with different outputs and applications. Do you plan to go EFI or Carb?

Thanks. I am doing that now.

In your opinion, would you rather go EFI or Carb?

Depends what you want, carb is a bit more simple, cheaper and easiest to get HP for your $. EFI is great if you want reliability (although carb can be), plan to go turbo or S/C or better MPG.

Personally I'm going Mass-Air EFI, reliability, power and fuel economy for when it's my Daily.

Alright...Thanks a bunch man. I'll look into the EFI.

What kind of cars would have the 302 EFI in it?

Depends what transmission you want to run and your state laws on what year motor/EFI . . . check into your state emission laws first.

My state doesn't really have any emission law. It basically comes out to...dont be stupid about your car. Exaust leaks = Bad. Black smoke = Bad. haha

I am just looking into this for my knowledge. I'm not going to be the actual person performing the swap. My buddy knows how to do all that stuff.

So i'm just buying the engine and tranny, and hes plopping it in for me.

Common EFI systems are 96'-01' Explorer 5.0, allows you to run a 4R70W (and maybe AODE),
94-95' Mustang GT 5.0 EFI, allows you to run a manual or AODE (and maybe 4R70W),
89-93' Mustang GT/LX 5.0 EFI allows you to run T-5 (EDIT - Any manual or TV controlled auto) or AOD/C6/C4, must use a stand-alone module (Baumann) to run a 4R70W or AODE.

That link I provided you will tell you almost everything we can tell you, take a few days to search through the V8 section here, RPS and TRS and I think all your questions will be answered.
