Engine swap for a 00 XLT 4x4

Hello, i have a 2000 Ranger 4.0L XLT 4x4 offroad package with about 120k miles.

I was thinking to swap for a better motor, the 5.0 seems the be the best engine for these body, i have heard they are direct bolt on to engine, but i was wondering if there are better bolt on choice motor for my truck models?

And if i choose the 5.0L, how much should i expect to cost at a garage?

Thanks

The 5.0 will be the best overall swap in terms of not having to modify your truck in comparison to other swaps that have been done. I'm in the process of doing one right now.

In regards to your question about how much it'll cost at a garage, what all are you asking about? Do you want to use a crate motor or get one from a donor vehicle? Are you saying you want to have a shop do the entire swap from the donor vehicle to yours, or are you asking about a shop just inspecting/rebuilding the motor and you doing the swap yourself? Are you going to provide a donor vehicle/parts, or would you ask a shop to provide everything? The answers to those questions can put you anywhere from $500 to over $5,000; it just depends on what you're looking for.

I would ask the garage to just swap it in.

By the way, i have heard that the 5.0 V8 sohc has a similar MPG to the OHV 4.0, if not less.

Is that true?

I'm sure it's right around there. You know what they say about ranger engines... power of a 4 cylinder with the gas mileage of a V8 haha

When are you planning on doing the swap? It's something I have considered but my 4.0 still has a good amount of life left in it.. Plus it does what I need it to do for now haha
