Exhaust

Ok, just curious what sort of exhaust most of u put on ur 5.0 rangers. My first idea was a set of magna flow 40 series mufflers a guy I worked with told me about then pipes out the rear. when I called summit to get them the guy told me the space under a ranger isn't enough for 2 of them, I'm one that feels that dual exhaust means 2 mufflers not one. the guy at summit said I could run a dual inlet, dual outlet muffler and 2 tailpipes. I wanted 2 mufflers so I got 2 glasspack cherrybomb mufflers, 18 inch ones, I put a 18 in ext pipe then downturns on that. she sounds ok at idle, nice old style rumble. sounds good at cruising speed, for me that's 35 to 45, but if I hit it hard once she is rolling she don't sound real good, just noisy. I'm almost ready to give in and do the magnaflow? what r most of u running on ur setup? My front exhaust is factory 97 mountaineer exh, manifolds, 2 pipes, no h-pipe or y pipe, both go into a dual cat setup the the back is homemade

I'd settle for anything that sounded like a Mustang.
I know very little about V8, but 2 into 1s on a big twin is the best power exhaust. Both cylinders share the same expantion chamber, so the 2in & 2 out sounds like the way to go.

I have Torque Monster headers into 3" pipe with a dual in/out Spintech Pro Street 6000 muffler. Pipes are angled and turned slightly down past the rear axle with 4" tips.

Engine idle erratic

Ya so she has been running decent for mths, have other projects non vehicle ones to do, went away for weekend, came back Monday gave her a drive and idle seemed off, up and down that is. Drove it to work today and she barely made it..lol. she would Rev but no power? No new codes just same one, both banks running rich. Mech here said I should check fuel press reg. I did take vac hose off, no drupping fuel, but I'll check press. Guess she feels neglected so she wants some attention..lol

OK, I took her to a muffler shop to get a price on tailpipes. the guy said tailpipes aren't goin to quiet her down at all...he said if it was his he would put magnaflow 40 muffler on it so it will sound like a mustang. I'm honestly not sure I want it to? ya they sound good but I want it to have its own sound. I do like the deeper sound of cheery bombs but at times they are just noisy. got her home and she barely made it...1st gear up the hill near house..20 mph. the code reader says p1152..lack of h02s1 indicates rich. I was reading on another forum that this can be misleading. could be fpr, runs like a vac leak...idle up and down, will move til it shifts up then no ***** what so ever.

Found the hose to pcv breather was cracked and barely on...trimmed it back, put it back on she idles better. took it for a drive, she did better. thinking about maybe trying to stuff 2 magnaflow 40s in place of the glass packs...no tailpipes just yet. those mufflers r $96 a piece

Well she drove 17 miles to work doing 60 on parkway and I was good with that, drive home nearly the same. she acted up close to home, I looked for a vacuum leak, couldn't see any. went and got a fuel press tester..i have had them on b4 and got about 35 psi. it shows zip..nothing? she runs so she gotta have something. put the tester on 95 Saturn and it shows press. the other odd thing. when u turn key on efi motor the pump should hum or make noise to pressure up rail, the it should start as u turn key. mine never does, it just starts and gets no pre pressure. I ordered 2 flowmaster 44 mufflers for her, I was told mustang guys use 40s or 44s the later being a little louder. I saw a video of a mustang gt with 44s and it was all inside vehicle and it sounded sweet.

the 60 on parkway is about what she can do, sometimes 70 but the tires slow her down.

Ok, just retested the 5.0 and it shows 64 psi..the pump in takn is for a 3.0 and it runs at higher press. the 5.0 I think wants 35 0r 40? so I'm thinking mech at work is right. she needs a fpr.
