Has any 1 ever done this swap? All aluminum block with a 460 head CJ rods and a 4 barrel carb.I know the bellhousing would need to be adapted or fabbed but this thing would have some ***** and be diff.

The frame rails are too close together to allow it to sit low enough.
Anything can be fabbed but the truck is too light for that much power.

If they can fit a 460 in there I think a 470 would definitely fit. I think they only make between 200 and 220 hp bored out so I dont see how that is anymore powerful than a 4.0 sohc.

In stock form
What about with CJ,SCJ or Police Interceptor head? It's an inline 4 cyl with a 460 head so I know it would fit between the rails.Look m up on ebay I am thinking about it,heck a stock head with Cobra Jet valves and ported exhaust would have to have a + effect. If you went with an aluminum head the weight would be minimal. Then maybe a Super Cobra Jet grind on a custom cam???? The SOHC is a "W I D E" motor and that's were the nickname EXPLODER came from the timing chain for the cams is it's weak point,

I've been wrenching over thirty years.
A carbed 470 can easily put out 500 HP.
Been there , done that.
A 470 will turn the Ranger frame into a pretzel.

Sam , it appears that you need to get your engine sizes straight.
A 470 is not a 3.7L.
It's 470 cubic inches.
A 460 is 460 cubic inches.
They are big block engines that are large, heavy , and will twist your Ranger frame into a mass of scrap metal.
If you got the $$$$ to fab a real frame to hold it , Have at it.
To drop a 460 or 470 into a Ranger won't work.
ALL the weight is on the front , and you would go through a set of rear tires in about an hour.
Well, maybe less if you took it off idle.

A MERCRUISER 470 is 3.7L. IT IS HALF OF A FORD 460. It is a mercruiser 4cyl boat engine that produces 170-190hp stock.
470 is the model number not displacement. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/s...ght=mercruiser

The 470 is a MERCRUISER inboard boat motor it is 3.7 liters 224 cubic inches it is a 4 cyl with an aluminum block it USES "1" 385 SERIES cyl head "U KNOW?? " 370 ,429 and 460" and SCJ,CJ Police Interceptor or TRUCK connecting rods.Go to E-Bay and punch in Mercruiser and my point will be made.I HOPE!
