Need Tranny Help

So as you guys know i did the 5.0 swap and am very pleased with the truck besides the tranny. The thing shifts like crap it either slams into gear or just kinda slides into gear and overdrive will grind then go into gear. I am looking to get it to have nice clean firm shifts what should i do just a stock rebuild or have it built? I am also curious because i have the b&m ratchet shifter when i put it in first it shift the same as in drive, do the 4R70W trans shift out of 1st gear or will they stay in first till you shift it out when you want it to? What would it do if i had the tcs switch positioned wrong could it cause it to shift like that?
Thanks
Rob

Sounds like something is up internally or with the ratchet shifter to me. I've worked on a couple of 4R70W and they usually shift really smooth, almost never rough or quick. I installed the Baumann shift kit on a friends truck which really helped with the shifts, made them easy on the street, but when in the throttle made them really quick. Idk if a kit would help you, but I would think there is possibily something wrong with the trans.

There isnt really any reason the ratchet shifter would make it shift like that or at least i wouldnt think so anyways. I would geuss that it is something internal because i also forgot to say when you let off the gas doing any speed over 40mph it will make like a grinding noise and when you stop the truck will stay in 2nd gear sometimes also.
I am thinking i may do a full rebuild all new clutches and everything inside the case and then some type off valve body/shift kit and also have it retuned to bump up the line pressure also and the shift points and i would assume that would take care off my problem.

Sounds like a good plan. If its grinding while slowing that definately sounds like you have some issues. Makes sure you clean out that valve body real good when you do.
