Icon14 OD Cancel button

I've had an 99 explorer V8 swap into a 99 B3000 for a few years. I never got around to hooking up an OD cancel and need some assistance with it. I can't find any of my wiring diagrams from the swap and google didn't help much. I popped the column apart but don't see anything obvious. To add to the issue the truck was originally a 5 speed so I'm not sure if there is anything in the harness to begin with. I didn't swap the column and did a B&m shifter. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Maybe some wire color codes?

The AODE or 4R70W 4-speed automatics use Shifter position to allow OD or no OD
Shift display looked like this: P R N D 3 2 1

Some had a Circle around the D and then instead of a 3 it had a D with no circle around it: P R N O D 2 1

D allows shift to OD
3 does not

If you have a 3 speed shifter: P R N D 2 1
then 2 would be No OD and D would allow shift to OD, and you would have no manual shift to 1st

I was under the impression that the 4R70W was electronic OD. I did run out and jump under the truck to be sure. Pulled the cable and the trans has 5 notches, should definitely be PND21. Its always ran through all 4 gears and manually ripping though the gears definitely gets me 1st to 3rd and 4th kicks in automatically. I know I4 and V6 rangers had an OD cancel button on the shifter, and I believe the 4R wouldn't be any different. i need to be able to block dropping into overdrive.

Rangers used the base model A4LD that started off with 2 solenoids, TCC and 3-4 shift(OD solenoid) so it could be disabled
The 4R55E and 5R55E added 3 more solenoids

Base for the 4R70W was the AOD manual controlled 4 speed OD trans, it had the O(overdrive) and D(no Over Drive)
That changed to the AODE, which added TCC solenoid and 2 shift solenoids, neither is specific to OD.

Shift chart here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/ke...0_123951_1.gif

There is SS1(shift solenoid 1), and SS2 (shift solenoid 2)

SS1 needs to be ON for OD, but also needs to be ON for 1st
So if you turn it off then no 1st, although never tried it

You are missing R in the above
So from Park you can only shift it 5 times, R N D 2 1

So you're telling me that the 99 Explorer 5.0's didn't have a button on the shifter to disable overdrive?

Don't know never owned one

4.0l explorers had them, they used same automatics as Rangers

OK, looked into it a bit more, 4R70W could use a TCS(transmission control switch), that is what it is called, not OD on/off button, lol

So if you want to goggle it use: 1999 Ford transmission control switch

Using the 4R70W pin 29 on the computer is the TCS input, it is a TOGGLE input
If Overdrive is ENABLED then sending pin 29 12volts momentarily will TOGGLE computer to DISABLE Overdrive, sending pin 29 12volts again will ENABLE Overdrive

The Overdrive button will have Key on power, when you press it OD light should go ON or go OFF, if you press it again it will go back.
So there is no OD OFF state disabling a solenoid, it is a TOGGLE for the computer shift software
The computer operates the OD dash light, no physical connection to the button

If you want to add OD on/off, you will need a fused key on wire to a momentary contact button
Then a wire from the button to Pin 29 on the Computer(PCM)

I also saw Pin 41 being used but 4R70W PCMs seem to use pin 29

Ok, I'm reading this and my 98 ranger has 97 aod tranny on 5.0. it likes to shift to o/d a lot, does it work the same, my shifter column has d with white circle, 2 and 1. so how do I get it to not shift to o/d?

You sure it is a 1997 AOD?
Maybe typo and 1987

Last Ford to get AOD was '92/'93

AODE was used after that, then the 4R70W in '95/'96

Read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_AOD_transmission

If it is an AOD(no electrics) then try 2 on the shifter and see if you get shift from 1st, 2nd and then 3rd with no shift to OD(4th)

Truck AODs had shifter that looked like this, P R N O D 1
"O" being overdrive, D with circle
D being no OD
There was no manual 2nd gear selection, only 1st

This has to do with the shift Cam inside the AOD transmission, there were only 6 positions.
Car AODs had 7 positions, P R N O D(3) 2 1
Some had 3 others D at 5th position
