v8 build. Info and recomendations needed.
What would be the best v8 build for a 2000 ranger. I already have a 351w bolted to a c4 that i planned on doing but alot of people are saying do a 302. Any help?
I recommend you keep all your questions about the same topic, in the same thread, instead of starting 3. Might help if you're trying to get answers, they'll all be in one place. I've heard of more people doing 302's than anything when doing a V8 swap. If you already have an engine, and someone who thinks they can install it.. and can handle the fabrication part of it, then stick with that. But do some research, SEARCH older posts of other users, possibly other forums. You can almost always find a build thread where someone has done the work and documented it with pictures and issues they have run into. Search and research.
How did this go, is the EFI 5.0L in yet ?
I don’t think the 5.0L Windsor is over rated at all, it is just that it is the only engine that Ford has that will fit the Ranger engine bay without a lot of extra work so i guess over used might work.
9 second Mustang running OEM Blocks is not over rating anything, the potential is there.
The 4.6 is SWEET but fitting it is a lot harder, although I have thought about it too.

210-hp, 4.0-liter V-6 (regular gas)
215-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 (regular gas)
That is way to much work for 5 horses. If I'm already pulling the engine might as well do something worthwhile. But again thats just my opinion.

More torque the easier the vehicle gets started and the better the response feels when driving.
Off Roading is all about TORQUE not HP.
That is why the V-8 Swap is a GOOD thing !
As soon as I find out about the MA Laws I will be looking into a swap too, and yes a 5.0L EFI if possible.
I know, I couldn't find consistent torque numbers though to compare the two. There is way more potential in a 4.6 than a 5.0 if you guys want to talk that game. In NC you have to use the same year or newer engine anyway to pass inspection so the 5.0 isn't a option for many vehicles.

So I might just be able to put in a 4.6L, thinking, big smoke...
A 4.6, nice, a Cobra 4.6 nicer still but the work involved, not sure if it is worth it.
ltr

err...add 1inch to that stroke size....
I was thinking the old 5.0L way, the 4.6 has a smaller bore 3.5” and a 3.5” stroke.
While the 5.0L had a 4” Bore and a 3.0” stroke; there are a lot more differences in these engines than what I thought.
Good catch…
What do they do to a 4.6L to make a 5.0L, stroke it and open up the bore ?
Interesting.
